The Westside Striders youth track club is developed as a youth outreach program to help children realize their running potential. The mission of the club is for kids to obtain a sense of achievement, while teaching them discipline and gaining respect from their peers. The club is coached and supervised Coach Leslie Wright, a 1980 graduate of Bennett High School and a 1999 inductee of the Salisbury University Athletic Hall of Fame for his achievements in track and cross country.

For years, the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center has brought high school boys basketball players together to compete on the hardwood over the holiday break. Now in its fourth year the Governor's Challenge will add an AAU division, nearly doubling the size of the tournament, as the event is now hosting participants anywhere from 9 to 18 years old.
