Recreation Councils

The mission of Wicomico County Recreation & Parks is pushed forward with the assistance of Recreation Councils. These councils serve to develop and coordinate recreation programs for the community, and it is through their voice regarding community needs and interests that the Recreation & Parks Department determines what recreation programs should be developed.

The purpose of the Council is to represent its respective community and foster the development of well-rounded parks and recreation programs for all community members. Furthermore, the Councils work to maintain facilities within their area and promote currently on-going programs and events.

Recreation Councils are tasked with five main responsibilities

1. Raise money to supplement County funds used to administer recreation programs
2. To offer recreation programs assistance
3. To provide maintenance of facilities
4. Capital Improvements
5. Establishing Policies for the Recreation Council

Recreation Councils represent the following areas

• Eastside Youth Sports Complex Committee (Willards)
• Friends of Recreation & Parks
• Fruitland
• Mardela
• Pemberton Park Board
• Pittsville
• Salisbury Advisory Council for Youth Activities
• Sharptown
• Westside Advisory Board

Recreation Council members consist of representatives from non-profit, civic, church, school, cultural, youth and adult community organizations and interested citizens who are concerned with leisure time activities.
